Gov’t, people of Melaka hail Mohd Ali Rustam’s appointment as Governor

MELAKA June 5 — The state government and people of Melaka congratulate Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam on his appointment as the seventh Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Melaka, Chief Minister Datuk Sulaiman Md Ali said.

He said this is a significant historic event for the state because this is the first time that a native of Melaka is appointed as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri.

He said the state government and the people also wish to express their deepest gratitude and sincere appreciation to the sixth Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Dr Mohd Khalil Yaakob for his dedicated service to the state for the past 16 years.

“May Allah SWT continue to shower us in the state with lovely blessings,” he said in a statement on his official Facebook page.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah yesterday presented the instrument of appointment as the seventh Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Melaka to Mohd Ali in a ceremony at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur.

Al-Sultan Abdullah also conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Seri Maharaja Mangku Negara award which carries the title Tun, to Mohd Ali who is from Kampung Bukit Katil here.

Mohd Ali is scheduled to take the oath of office as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Melaka at Balai Istiadat, Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh here, today.
